The 12th Bioeconomy Report highlights the sector’s growth across the EU27 and Italy’s leading position. Innovation, biotechnology and circular economy models are driving sustainable development. Through the BioTech2Agri project, Informest and Cluster Agrifood FVG supported Italian and Slovenian SMEs, strengthening competitiveness, collaboration and the sustainable valorisation of biological resources throughout the cooperation area.

On 10 July 2026 in Udine, the BioTech2Agri event concluded the Innovation Coin support programme, presenting results on technical feasibility, business model development and funding opportunities. Universities, companies, experts and Italian and Slovenian partners shared experiences, financial tools and collaboration opportunities, confirming the value of cross-border cooperation for sustainable and competitive agri-food innovation.

Friuli Venezia Giulia, thanks to its rich and diversified agricultural heritage, offers significant potential for the development of biotechnologies applied to food, nutraceutical and cosmetic value chains. However, many SMEs in the region struggle to access technology transfer and to fully exploit research results.
