Supporting the EUSAIR governance for improved cooperation

The European Union Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region (EUSAIR) is a macro-regional strategy whose implementation is supported by the Interreg IPA ADRION Programme through Priority Axis 4 – “Supporting the governance of the Adriatic-Ionian Region.” Operational support is provided via the strategic project “EUSAIR Facility Point 23-27,” which involves the 10 countries of the area.

The Strategy aims to address common challenges and seize shared opportunities for the benefit of each individual country in the Adriatic-Ionian Region, specifically: four EU Member States (Croatia, Greece, Italy – limited to the relevant regions – and Slovenia), five candidate countries for EU accession (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, and North Macedonia), and one third country (San Marino).

The project’s objectives are:

  • To support the effective and efficient functioning of EUSAIR governance structures;
  • To support the implementation of the Strategy and its Action Plan through harmonized procedures and internal communications, ensure coordination among the Pillars, and enhance EUSAIR’s visibility through stakeholder communication and inter-macroregional cooperation;
  • To provide EUSAIR governance structures with tools for data-driven decision-making and build internal institutional capacities;
  • To monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Strategy and the Action Plan, and recommend any necessary changes in their execution.
