On Wednesday, September 18, Informest took part in the cross-border public event on heritage digitization, promoted as part of the RecapMCV project – Recapitalization of Merlin CV co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia program.
The event emphasized the dissemination of innovative experiences in the field of cultural and natural heritage. In particular, the strategy and action plan for innovative heritage digitization, a document produced as part of the RecapMCV project that will be officially published shortly, was also presented to the public. The partners who worked jointly on this document include: the Koper Scientific Research Center, the Municipality of Tolmin, Venetian Cluster srl, and INFORMEST.
The document explores the application of new augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies to create immersive experiences at cultural heritage sites. It begins with an introduction presenting the central theme, namely the use of AR and VR technologies to enhance the experience at cultural sites. Subsequently, key definitions of the technological concepts and terminologies used, such as augmented reality and virtual reality, are provided. The document continues by analyzing the application of audio-visual and virtual reality technologies for immersive experiences at cultural sites, including practical examples of immersive rooms and innovative museums, describing the different user experiences these installations offer.
Another important point addressed is the inclusive potential of new immersive technologies, which can engage people with disabilities, such as visual and hearing impairments. The economic impact and sustainability of sensory installations are then analyzed, with particular attention to how these technologies can be managed economically and ecologically responsibly, as well as the importance of combining digital and non-digital technologies to create impactful immersive experiences. The action plan also focuses on the project to build a mobile immersive room at the Tolmin Castle, a key point of the RecapMCV project, with an analysis of the key principles and technical aspects related to its design.
