A technical meeting of RESPONSE project partners has begun this morning at 9.00 to discuss the meteorological and oceanographic data collected in the six pilot areas of the Adriatic. Actually, the harmonization analysis of historical data in the Adriatic regions was completed: since 1979 there has been a progressive warming of the sea temperature, particularly intensified since 2008, with trends up to 1.56°C/decade, as well as growing trends in temperature and precipitation variables.
Scientific data confirms that the climate is changing and that specific interventions and strategies are needed to deal with it.

It is now necessary to understand how to “translate” these data for local policy makers, with whom RESPONSE partners will have to confront in the coming months for the preparation of the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan – SECAPs.

This is also urgent because the analysis on the adaptation and mitigation strategies applied in Italy and Croatia underlined that there are differences in the two countries and also within the Croatian counties themselves: if the Italian regions have adopted both adaptation and mitigation plans, the Croatian regions have adopted only strategies of one type, with differences between the counties themselves. As an example, Primorsko-Goranska county adopted only mitigation, while Šibensko-Kninska and Dubrovacko-Neretvanska county have only adaptation strategies.
Differences that should be taken into account when the partners start again the consultations with local administrations to accompany them in the definition of intelligent strategies for responding to climate change.

RESPONSE project is co-funded by the Interreg Programme Italy-Croatia; Informest is the lead partner together and Friuli Venezia Giulia Energy Agency – APE FVG is the technical partner, while the city of Lignano Sabbiadoro is involved as a pilot area of Friuli Venezia Giulia for the definition of SECAP.
