Following the decisions made by the Steering Group of the 5th Conference on the Environment in Oporto on 4th-5th November 2000 and in Trieste on 14th April 2000, the Regional Administration of Friuli-Venezia Giulia organised and implemented a European Forum on “Co-operation in the field of environment between regional authorities in the EU and in candidate countries of Central and Eastern Europe”, aimed at defining a common strategy and at developing joint inter-regional initiatives. Informest and the Euro Info Centre IT388 hosted by it supported the Regional Administration of Friuli-Venezia Giulia in the organization of the Forum by implementing the following activities:

• identification of relevant regional authorities in the candidate countries;
• design and organization of the event (planning, mailing, promotion, press releases, logistic arrangements, etc.);
• networking with EU organizations relevant to the Forum objectives;
• meeting with the DG Environment for the presentation of the event;
• selection of case studies and good practices in the field of environmental policy to be presented during the event;
• preparation and presentation of a report on the EU action programmes aimed at the development of inter-regional co-operation in the field of environment;
• organizational arrangements for the event;
• preparation of the working material for the Forum and of the final report and documentation.
