Improvement of Agricultural Productive Processes through an Environmentally Sustainable Approach

Project Objectives:

The main aim of this project was to sustain agricultural production in Balti and Ungheni districts through the optimization of crop rotation, irrigation and fertilization techniques, according to an environmentally sustainable approach and to an integrated co-operation among public institutions and scientific centres.

Project Activities:

  • Agro-ecological analysis of the territory;
  • Set-up of productive models for integrated crop production systems based on research/experimental and application activities;
  • Training courses and study visits in Italy and Romania.

Target groups involved in the project were: (a) local farmers and producers, (b) public institutions involved in rural development initiatives and (c) agrarian research centres. In the framework of this project, a visit to Romania and Moldova has been organized. A group of Italian entrepreneurs in agribusiness sectors, such as wine- and grain- producers, as well as a group of Italian representatives of local public authorities visited several companies in the agri-business field in the Romanian counties of Iasi and Bacau and in the Moldovan districts of Balti and Ungheni. Aim of these visits was the identification of investment and co-operation opportunities. A mission of Moldovan entrepreneurs in Italy was carried out in the last months of 2002 in order to foster the matchmaking activity.
