Climate Change and its Impact on Tourism in the Alpine Space

Objective of the project

The project aimed at dealing with the internationally recognized issue of the effects of climate change on alpine tourism, winter tourism and winter sports in some areas of the Alps and all-season tourism in other areas, providing:

  • appropriate strategies to ensure a balanced development of alpine tourism
  • the preparation of appropriate adaptation policies at the national, regional and local level
  • assessment of the economic and social effects of climate change on tourism  

Project activities:

  • Analysis on the impacts of climate change on Alpine tourism;
  • Creation of an executive overview of the tourist areas;
  • Analysis on adaptation and management strategies in the Alpine region;
  • Selection of a set of parameters and identification of common trends in order to develop a strategy;
  • Creation of an electronic tool for stakeholders;
  • Development of strategies in the pilot areas with a direct involvement of local authorities, stakeholders and the public.

Expected results:

  • Overview and assessment of possible impacts of climate change;
  • Identification of possible adaptation strategies;
  • Development of an electronic web-based tool;
  • Information, education and communication activities.

Coordination and organisation of transnational meetings among the project partner and set up of a Steering Committee.
