From September 15 to 17, 2025, the tenth edition of the Mediterranean Coast and Macro-Regional Strategies Week will be hosted in Izola (Slovenia).

This well-established event was created to celebrate Mediterranean Coast Day and to reflect on the relationship between economic development and environmental sustainability in coastal areas. Over the years, it has become a key platform for dialogue among the four macro-regional strategies of the European Union, offering a space for exchange between institutions, experts, civil society, and citizens.

2025 marks an important milestone: ten years of exchanges, ideas, and synergies that have helped strengthen cooperation between territories. This year, the focus will be on crucial topics such as post-2027 Cohesion Policy and climate resilience—issues that directly affect the future of Mediterranean coastal communities.

The choice of dates is no coincidence: the week is scheduled around Mediterranean Coast Day, celebrated every September 25 in many Mediterranean countries. This occasion recalls Slovenia as the first Mediterranean country to ratify, in 2009, the Protocol on Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM).

With a rich program of meetings, roundtables, and activities, the event will bring to Izola not only political representatives and decision-makers but also experts, associations, and citizens, demonstrating a growing shared commitment.

The Mediterranean Coast and Macro-Regional Strategies Week 2025 will also be coordinated with the Macro-regional & Sea Basin Strategies Days in Brussels, in a European vision that connects local experiences with international perspectives.

An opportunity not only to reflect on achievements but above all to address future challenges and the role of macro-regional strategies in building a more sustainable and resilient Mediterranean.
