Eastern Balkans: Infrastructural networks and prospects for international collaboration

The aim of the study was to analyse the situation of transport and energy infrastructure in Eastern Balkan countries, t. i. Bulgaria and Romania. It also represented a complementary similar work of the study previously dedicated to the Western Balkans. The examination foresaw a description of the legal framework in force, the main characteristics of local construction enterprises (this part has been realised thanks to the cooperation of Impregilo and Todini), the situation of transport and energy infrastructures in the area, and some final considerations and speculations on potential effects if the foreseen transport infrastructure projects would be carried on.

The main chapters of the study were:

  • Legal construction framework;
  • Features of construction enterprises in eastern Balkans;
  • Regional macroeconomic framework;
  • Transport infrastructure system;
  • Energy infrastructure system;
  • Potential economic effects of the projects referred to transport infrastructures.

The study was published in 2004 by Franco Angeli.
