Project objectives:

• To increase technical, scientific and economic co-operation between Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, Chernovtsy Oblast and Botosani County, marked by the same natural richness in wood, that represents one of the major resources of the two cross-border regions;
• To stimulate the development of strategies by the local authorities on cross-border basis in order to solve common problems through joint co-ordinate actions;
• To establish a network between wood experts in order to create the basis for an Ukrainian specialized centre for wood certification, testing and professional training.

Project activities:

• Feasibility study of Ukrainian territory and local wood resources;
• Transfer of basis methodology and best practices in wood management;
• Workshops in Italy and Ukraine;
• Assistance in the start-up of joint activities between wood experts.

Subcontractors involved in the project were: CATAS (Italy) and Centre EcoResource (Ukraine). The target groups involved were: public institutions engaged in timber development activities; research centres; sawmills and wood processing SMEs; wood and forestry industry associations.
