Since 1970 Est-Ovest acted as a very privileged observatory and an open forum on the evolution of Central and Eastern Europe and of the Western Balkans. Thanks to its standing staff of economic analysts and external contributions, in the past the Review was a tool for monitoring the former socialist systems in the East, their interconnections and reform processes, later featuring the past and the on-going paths of their accession to EU, and the relevance of European Neighbourhood Policy for the relations with Russian Federation and other Far Eastern countries. After incorporation by Informest January 2008 of the “Istituto di Studi e Documentazione sull’Europa comunitaria e l’Europa orientale – I.S.D.E.E.”, Trieste (Italy), founder of the Review, Est-Ovest was edited in electronic format on-line till No. 4/2009.
