The choices made by Brussels support the development of a transport network in two levels, a priority one which would represent the backbone of the European network (structured into 10 corridors), and the other designed to integrate the first with the national and regional networks.
Regarding the North Adriatic region, it has been confirmed its strategic role as a southern terminal of the Baltic-Adriatic Corridor, recognizing the importance of the Pontebbana railway line, currently underutilized, with Trieste as a function of priority port along with Venice and Ravenna. As for the rail (Milan) Venice-Trieste (Slovenia), the situation is still not delineated, the proposed railway works have been confirmed, but the agenda is less defined.
